"We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents."

We only show half of ourselves because we are afraid of exposing the full truth that is within each of us. Society causes us to think that our "divine idea" is not what people want to know. We think that Truth is not worth our time. Society has conditioned us to suppress the Truth that won't be accepted by a majority of the population. Most of the time people only want to hear the truths society already knows. Even then those that society has agreed on to be truths might not even be part of Truth. The truth we hold back might never be fully known. There is a Truth that spans between everyone in the world, but each person represents part of the Truth. So it will be almost impossible to ever know all of the Truth. The parts of the Truth that are accepted will only be a fraction of what it all means. It meaning the way life is; the reasons people are the way they are. The "divine idea" is there to show the purpose of the person in life. The opinions and personalities of people all around the world reveal different points of Truth. Of course there will people who agree on what the divine idea is but there will be people who disagree on the divine idea.

People want others to worship their god all in the same way but everyone has their different methods of worshiping. The Truth is one universal thought but is too complex for a lot of the world to understand. The Truth is a concept that is in everyone's mind but is pushed to the side by the world's opinions and many generations of suppressing it. From that Truth is a thing everyone strives to find like it was never part of them and it is an actual object. But Truth has all way been part of us and all ways will be. We strive to find answers to everything and while doing so we forget to look within ourselves for the answers.

It's almost unaccepted by society to reveal the truth. Many times there are things we secretly wish to talk about, but for fear of "embarrassing" family or friends we suppress it deep inside us. Everyone knows what truth is, but it's so powerful, that people push it aside, as you said. An example of this is breast cancer. I had a teacher last year who had severe breast cancer. Her mother had died from it also, but the difference was that in her mother's time talking about breast cancer was unheard of, so her mother had to suppress all of her feelings and pretend everything was ok. Now, we have things like breast cancer walks that make people aware of the problem. My teacher gave a talk about her breast cancer in front of the whole school, 3,000 kids. This was something that would have been unheard of during her mother's time, and even for her revealing the truth was difficult, but she broke societies barriers, and spoke about it, and that is something I will admire for years to come.

I think people are afraid of the Truth. It causes chaos. The reason we hold back our Truths is because society discourages us to. If it was the opposite and everyone was encouraged to give their opinion, there would be no set truth. This would cause confusion among society. People don't want to think that much. They'd much rather accept one Truth and move on with their lives without thinking. This way, they go on living blindly without ever expresses their opinion. I hate to use a quote, since Emerson discourages it, but I really agree with it: "Living is easy with eyes closed / Misunderstanding all you see" -Lennon/McCartney
